It's time for the 4-times a year entry about how Nicole's life is going. Exciting, eh? Not really.

Lately I've been bored with just about everything in my life. I feel like im just wasting time until something important happens, the first of which being BPA Nationals, follwed by Graduation and then the Europe Trip and then college in August. It's like I'm just thinking of ways to kill time in between the big things that I am looking forward too. It seems like the year is going by both slow and fast though.

Ladies and gentlemen, the rumors are true. After ten years, close to a hundred recorded songs and several trips around the world, The Get Up Kids
will be playing their last shows this summer. We're celebrating the release of our as-of-yet-untitled live record and we're coming around one final time. We'll be playing gigs in the west, in the east and in the middle of the US. Our very last show will be in Kansas City, MO (our hometown) Fourth of July weekend 2005.

As a group we'd like to thank each and everyone of you for supporting us over the years. Whether we slept on your floor in '97 or you drove
all the way to Lawrence to see us play in '05, we are forever grateful. We feel it's best to let the last ten years speak as a document for what the
band was. We can look back and say that we are proud of everything that we accomplished. In the end, we will always remember this as a good time;

My average in Spanish is going to be a 3.4 B. So I am now on a mission.

I am going to study spanish and do my spanish tapes for 2 hours every day so that I am semi-fluent for the exam (two spoken sections and an essay) and get an A on it.

1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
Seriously went rock climbing, learned to knit, started my own business, lived through 4 hurricanes, went to the Midwest (Ohio) and learned to love it. What can i say, I had a pretty boring year.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any because it would go against my pessimism. Just kidding, yes. I'm still 1st in the class a year from last year (now) and I haven't killed anyone out of frustration or rage yet.

I'll probably make some more for next year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Do aliens count?

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Two of my best friends' dads.

5. What countries did you visit?
Ohio counts as its own country, right?

More friends and a happy, stable life at college.

School stuff, too much to mention here, as usual. Being lucky enough to find someone who could tolerate me, and knitting an awesome scarf.

Being rejected at Yale, damnit. And all sorts of internal conflicts.

Not much. Little bit of the flu, but thats about it.

Ok so this is what I'm sending to Yale. I still haven't revised it that much, and I think it still needs a lot of work, but tell me what you think.

Every once in a while it is beneficial to indulge in wanderlust. Driving on the open road with the windows open, radio blaring, and wind whipping through your hair has a sort of therapeautic effect; the excitement of going somewhere that isn't familiar is a powerful thrill. Jack Kerouac describes this fundamental desire for movement and a change of scenery in his novel, On the Road. This renowned book follows the trail of Dean Moriarty, a wild and restless hero of his own generation, as he journeys across the American continent. It communictes that, throughout all the sadness and pain, if you open your heart to the beauty, you will find that life is a wonderful thing.

Sal Paradise, an aspiring young writer who is living an uneventful life at his aunt's house in suburban New Jersey, tells Dean's story by narrating his life experiences with Dean. Sal Paradise is the character that I can relate with the most, and throughout the novel I placed myself in Sals's shoes, seeing the world through his eyes. Over the course of the novel Sal's outlook on life changes completely. Hitching rides cross-country in the back of a fruit truck and meeting other adventurous youth inspire Sal to become more in touch withthe world around him. By traveling across country numerous times-oftentimes with California as the final destination- only to stay there for a few days and turn back for home, prove to Sal that it's not as much the destination that matters as it is the way you get there. Sleeping under tarpaulin, traveling as fast as the truck will go, looking up at the starry night skies of Kansas and the mountains of Nevada; these images stay with Sal and shape his personality as he comes of age on the dusty intersates of 1950's America. Throughout this journey, I found myself thinking "This is where I want to be, this is how I want to feel about life."

Leafing through the pages of this novel, savoring Kerouac's skillfully-woven prose, I realized what was missing in my life. Prior to reading this book, I had been taking life for granted. I was not open to change and would rather live my life the way I was used to, the way that worked best for me. Contemplations of the sheer beauty of the world and the mystery of life itself were filed somewhere in the dusty section of my brain behind formulas for my next AP Chemistry exam and a table of trigonometric identities; philosophical meanderings were the veritable caboose of my train of thought.

Greatly thanks to my experience with this story, I have developed a new attitude towards life and the world around me. This newly founded appreciation has consequently inspired me to build on one of my budding interests, photography. I am intrigued by the concept of being able to freeze a moment in time and preserve it for years to come. I am captivated with how simple it is to blend people, places, and things together to create a true work of art. After all, shouldn't life work the same way?

It's been a while since I actually updated, so here I go.

The hurricane was freaking lame. It was 2 days of rain and gusts of wind. Wow. I did go outside during one of the "60-70 mph winds" periods and goofed around. I couldn't quite lean forward with only the wind supporting me, but I came close a few times.

I need to do my FUCKING Senior Project Outline today. I'll probably end up being one out of like four that actually do it today, so I'm probably wasting my time. I don't want to do it. The thesis Mr. Donnan wrote for me was stupid so I had to change it or else I wouldn't have enough information for 11 pages. Even still, my paper is only going to consist of 11 pages of total BS. I also have to do my chem homework but thats really no biggie and I can do it in an hour or so.

Ok. I want to change my hair but I have no idea what I should do or what would even look good on me, since I've only had 2 hairstyles in my life, super short and the one I have now. Super short didnt really work for me. Does anybody have any suggestions?

God damn this business is really lame

Oh yay. Another hurricane. No one's got any plywood to board up the windows so all we can do is try to tape them and hope they dont shatter and fly all around our house. We're leaving probably tomorrow after school or friday morning ish, to go stay at the Marriott World Center Hotel in Orlando. We figured it would be safer to stay in a big hotel, less of a chance of anything flying around and slamming into our house. No school on Friday, probably no school for the entirety of next week also, I am really not looking forward to this, another FOREVER of no power, internet, or phone. I'm getting a new cell phone in the mail hopefully tomorrow, when i get it I will edit this entry with the number and my Nextel beepy number thing in case you want to reach me that way. I want to check up on everyone after the storm so if you can, comment to this entry with the number I have the best chance of reaching you at. Good luck.
